On May 3, 2009, 47-year-old real estate agent Deborah Perez held a press conference in San Francisco, announcing that she believed her stepfather was the Zodiac killer. Perez claims that her stepfather, Guy Ward Hendrickson, took her along on at least two of his attacks in the late 1960s. Perez claims that the letter to Melvin Belli, allegedly from the Zodiac, was written by none other than herself --in an effort to seek help for her stepfather.

Perez claims that she was seven when she accompanied Hendrickson to a Vallejo park, where she says he murdered Darlene Ferrin and wounded Mike Mageau. Amazingly, she also claims to have been with Hendrickson when he murdered (allegdly) Paul Stine. Witnesses to the crime never mentioned seeing a child with the killer.

Perez also claims to have a pair of horn-rimmed glasses taken from Stine. While the glasses are similar, there seems to be a slight difference in the structure of the pair she claims were Stine's and the pair he was wearing in a photograph taken before his death. Perez hopes the glasses will help prove her claims.
According to the True Crime Report, the crime-related site of veteran blogger Steve Huff, this is not the first incredible claim made by Deborah Perez. Accrding to the site, Chris Sorensen, the former mayor of Norco, California, calims that Perez told him that she was an illegitimate daughter of President John F. Kennedy, going as far as to describe her memories of the Kennedy compound.
Amazingly, Perez, according to Sorensen, also claimed to have been with Bobby Kennedy at the Ambassador Hotel --where the New York Senator and Presidential candidate was assassinated.
Guy Ward Hendrickson, who died of cancer in 1983, lived in Orange County, California (several hours away from San Francisco) in 1968 and 1969, when the Zodiac killed his five known victims.
Perez is developing a documentary on her claims of being the stepdaughter of the Zodiac. Her publicist, disbarred (in the State of California) attorney Kevin McLean, a former partner of renowned attorney Melvin Belli. Mclean was disbarred for charges including misappropriation, misrepresentation, concealment, acts of moral turpitude, trust fund violations; offering to pay personal expenses incurred by a client; and failure to communicate. McLean reportedly led an independent investigation in which he offered reports from a handwriting analyst.
Janice Hendrickson, 65, the biological daughter of Guy Ward Hendrickson, told the San Francisco Chronicle that Perez's claims are untrue, stating "If the evidence proves that my father was the Zodiac, I will apologize, but if not, I will sue for defamation"
