The Zodiac Killer wanted to cause the most pain and terror in the shortest amount of time possible. He worked in this manner to achieve his sadistic satisfaction without getting caught. His ultimate goal was terror and fear. An examination of the crimes committted by the Zodiac will show this method of operation in action.
In 1975, Law enforcement agencies were entertaining the theory that the Zodiac was responsbile for dozens of murders across four states and committed these murders in the practice of witchcraft.
The Zodiac Killer referenced light opera in his letters to the police and press. Specifically, his quotes and misquotes were taken from "The Mikado, a comic opera (also known as "The Town of Titipu." The music was written by Arthur Sullivan and the libretto by W. S. Gilbert. It first opened in London's Savoy theater in 1885. The opera was set in Japan, though it largely parodied the British politics of the era.
